*updated*v1.00c
This program should serve as a server for flash network games. It is aimed for Flash game developers to include with their games. The one hosting the game have to have this program running on his machine. I originally intended to make it for online games, but it didn't work at first. But it worked fine with network (unless you are using IPv6).
[edit]
NOW! It works for online games. You just need port forwarding on your firewall and router, just like bittorrent.
[nov17,07]:Also, you need to reduce the security from the flash properties->advance.
[/edit]

There is a simple example inside the zip file.
Hope you find it useful.
And I welcome questions regarding this program. Feel free to ask.

Edit: By the way, if you have CS3, I don't think you'll need this one. Flash got integrated with Java somehow there. I am not quite sure, though.

Ohh! This could be quite useful!

Thanks, guzu!
Sure! But I updated it. The older example doesn't seem to work on flash8+. Sorry DX
Dorrr, and I just spent last night trying it out and wondering why it didn't work.

I still can't get my laptop and desktop to communicate, though. Java's unblocked, but my router won't let me open the same port for two different IP's. I can get past the connection stage on the flash, but typing text into the field and moving it around with the mouse has no effect on the other machine, and the server doesn't output anything with the trace on.
Could be because of flash security. Right-click on the flash movie and select properties and select advanced. A webpage will open where you can set the security. Add your C drive to your trusted places.

...
Just click this [link] ,edit, add locations, c:\
Yeah, Flash prompts you automatically when an application tries to do that. I've already enabled access.

C:/ is probably not a good place to add if your browser loads cached swf's that you don't want to trust.
You are offline already DX
Anyway, then I'll just give a suggestion.
I think it might be because you gave the wrong IP address. Check this [link] to get your real IP.

And don't forget that the router has to forward to the computer that has the server application running.

I am not sure what you ment by "same port for two different IP's" =(
It works even less when I use the real IP (ie - connect button does nothing).

When I set port forwarding on my router, I have to provide the port numbers AND the IP for it (open ports X through Y for 192.168.0.Z). If I try to forward the same port for more than one IP, the router will deny it.
Oh, I see what you mean, but this isn't the right way.
You only have one server that your flash will connect to. This server should be on only one computer (Game Host). The router should only forward to this certain computer.

In other words, when people want to connect to a game, they only need to provide the ip and port. They don't have to miss with their routers. Only the host does.
awesome! helped out so much thank you!
